I needed a quick place to get lunch yesterday. A spot that is easy in, easy out, where you can sit, read and eat.

Well, Dave’s Famous Barbeque over on South Willow Street across from the Mall of New Hampshire (between Barnes & Nobles and the 99) in Manchester fit the bill.

Décor: It is a chain and it’s a barbecue place so the decor was that country theme that you see in all the “down home” type of restaurants across the nation.

Service: The service was great…I sat at the bar for lunch where I got prompt, friendly and efficient service. I ordered the “Real Que” Texas Brisket Sandwich from the lunch menu, with a side of Wibur’s Beans and a glass of water with a lemon.

Food: The flavor of the meat was that of real barbecue (and not one of those phony wannabe BBQ sandwiches that is smothered by a thick gooey sauce,) the ample supply of pickles where like home made, and the beans were good. The bun, while fresh, was so average it was disappointing. (Cost about seven bucks.)

Still, I had a pang of hunger after finishing up…I wished the sandwich was just a little bit bigger. Of course I found out that they do have a larger sandwich, and I was offered dessert. I usually pass on the desert, but yesterday I succumbed to the temptation. A slice of pecan pie just sounded too good. Besides, it was Friday.

What arrived was a meal, a slice of warm Pecan Pie one quarter the size of a pie, ice cream and whipped cream. Of course I had to eat it all (for another seven bucks).

Note: Its location and large number of booths make this a good spot to have quick meetings with close associates.

I’d go back …. for a lunch, but not dinner…and of course I’d skip the dessert.
